NEC Classic: Dan Powell's Friday highlights
Thousands of historic car enthusiasts have made the annual pilgrimage to Birmingham’s NEC this weekend to enjoy the annual Classic Motor Show. As well as the enthusiasts and their queue into the NEC on Friday morning, plenty of classic car celebrities made it to the show - both cars, and personalities. We'll be bringing the full stories over the weekend, but for now, here are the highlights from the first day of action...
See you during the weekend?

The DKW Owners Club brought along this stunning Auto Union 1000 S. Built in 1961, the front-wheel drive classic features a water-cooled 981cc engine, which returns an impressive 35mpg. This particular example was built in West Germany and exported to Sweden. Little is known about the car’s history, but it was refurbished in Norway and brought to the UK.
The 1000 S is now owned by Robin Allen who uses the car in the winter months as a daily runner. The DKW Owners Club has 80 members and more than 30 cars in its ranks.
