Does RAC offer classic car insurance?

Does RAC offer classic car insurance?

You can get a lot of different products from RAC, but can they help you with classic car insurance?

What kind of insurance does RAC offer?

You can get a wide variety of insurance products from RAC, including standard motor, black box car insurance, temporary and learner insurance. RAC can also assist with classic car insurance, although this is provided by partners Hagerty insurance rather than directly from RAC.

What kind of classic insurance is available?

As with most classic car insurance policies the key element is that RAC through Hagerty is available with an agreed valuation to ensure your classic is sufficiently covered. In addition features such as European touring cover, laid-up cover and insurance for vehicles used in competitive motorsport are also available.

What kind of car qualifies as a classic?

The RAC does not give its own qualifications in terms of classic car policies, but Hagerty’s stipulations are that cars made between 1951 and 1970 are treated as classics and those built between 1971 and 1990 are modern classics. Insurance for vehicles made outside of these periods may be available.

How do I get a quote from RAC?

You can obtain a classic car indicative quote from RAC via Hagerty by completing the online form shown on the RAC website, whereupon you can request further contact to get a precise quotation for your exact needs.

RAC Insurance*  RAC

Like almost all insurers these days you can get a quote from RAC Insurance by visiting their website and filling in the relevant forms*, but the firm says to get the very best rates you should call them directly and speak to their knowledgeable staff who are well-versed in providing quotes for classic cars. You can even fill in a ‘call me’ form* with some details and a representative will call you back at a convenient time.

RAC Insurance can be contacted on: 0330 159 1111

How much does insurance from RAC cost?

As with any insurance quote many factors influence the final figure, particularly with classic car insurance where the valuation of a vehicle can vary on its age and condition. The below examples are based on a limited mileage policy with the recommended excess figure.

1995 VW Corrado VR6

£5,000

1973 MGB GT V8 £28,000

45 year old

£313*

£228*

How do I make a claim?

If you need to make a claim you should refer to the dedicated claims number outlined on your policy documents, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A special number is also given if you are travelling in the EU, or if you need breakdown and recovery assistance.

RAC Direct Insurance is to start using a panel of approved insurers - should I be concerned?

RAC Direct Insurance is moving from a direct insurer to using a panel of RAC-approved insurers. As a private motorist (pensioner), should I be concerned and shop around for other quotes? I have been an RAC member for many years and have insured my car with them for the last five years or so.
That means it will be a broker, not an insurer and may well get involved in dubious commission-earning practices such as calling in accident management companies and credit hire operators for claims.
