The year quoted in the first two paragraphs is presently wrong. I have just tried (February 2016) to register my 2002 tii as historic (registered 10 March 1975) and been refused. To quote from the reply I got from the DVLA: .... legislation was also introduced to exempt vehicles manufactured prior to 1 Jan 1975 from the payment of VED. This came into force on 1 April 2015. The intention from HM Treasury is to introduce a legislative clause every year so that vehicles manufactured 40 years ago will become exempt from VED.

This was my first car!! It loved to be driven and boy did I love gripping the turns on the backroads on the way home with the tunes going and the sunroof open!! It was some of the best memories. TBH...I just bought a Feline and after getting it back on the road am using it as a daily, amongst a raft of other much earlier stuff like 91 BMW E30 318iS, 95 Audi Coupe V6, Alfa 145 and 155 TS, and E36 328i M-sport coupe. I like the underratedness of the car, the decent push from the motor, the very pleasing (for a Pug, and most anything really) interior, the gadgets I rarely come into contact with being a Classic car nut, the good handling and just plain ease of use. Mine's a dark grey with saddle leather interior, all the bells and whistles and I have to say....I'm impressed that I'm impressed by a Frenchie. Spent the day at Beaulieu, what a refresing venue for a classic car owner, no pumped up prices or silly add ons for other attractions, very good food at sensible prices, good customer service, an excellent venue for a National Rally of any make. We were in my wife's Peugeot 205 Rolnd Garros Cabrio and felt amazed that it was chosen as one of the 8 best cars at the event, especially with the number of other cars Citroen put on a wonderful show with free coffee, crossiants and cup cakes, WELL DONE CITROEN. The SM was a beautiful car, certainly worthy of 1st prize, but equally the Floride and the Alpine were lovely, I thought that the Aronde was also equally excellent. My wife and I thank the organisers and the visitors who voted for her 205 and here's to next year.
