Mercedes-Benz W124 (1985 - 1995)
260E
Bargain barge forged from a block of solid German steel
After starting my business I got myself a van to take care of the work, so I needed a cheap run about to get me round and for the occasional trip to North Wales.
Looked at the usual Fiesta, Corsa and Clio etc but just by chance seen this absolutely stunning 1991 Mercedes 260E for just £495!
Told myself I must be crazy for even thinking about it, but went to see it anyway at a dealer about 30mins from me, as soon as I sat in it I was sold, the leather seats are like quaint old arm chairs, the 6 cylinder engine hums like a sewing machine despite its 216,000miles.
Have owned many cars in my relativley short 7 years of driving, but this is easily the most complete vehicle I have ever driven, the ride is second to none, the handling for such a big vehicle is very controlled, the engine is genuinley smooth as silk and when the revs pick up it has a extremely muscular mid range and a nice throaty roar, auto gearbox is very smooth also however it does not like to be rushed up the gears but that is forgivable in a luxury orientated car like this.
Insurance is another bonus, for me a 25yr old in Merseyside it costs me just £160 a year, fuel economy is dependant much on how you drive it but dont reckon on much more than 23 mpg.
