Mercedes-Benz 190 (1983 - 1993)
190e 2.6
Real usable classic.
I bought my 2.6 auto which is an import from Japan, this means nearly every optional extra was fitted. The other good thing is that there is no difference from the European spec cars so insurance and parts are never a problem. The car is in fantastic condition, it's hard to believe it is 26 years old. While there is little history this is one car I could buy with confidence on condition alone and the quality of older Mercedes shines through. Service parts are easy to get and very reasonable from Mercedes dealers, they can get nearly any part. Servicing is easy and with the amount of help from owners and forums it would make a good choice for someone who likes to own and maintain a classic car they can use every day. Performance from the 2.6 is good and on the motorway you have to keep an eye on the speedo as it very easy for the speed to creep up! Consumption is OK at 25-30 MPG in mixed driving, just factor in the fact that a well looked after example will not depreciate and costs are no higher than a modern hatch. The auto suits the cars 6 cylinder very well and gives a very smooth drive, just be careful as it can spin the rear wheels in the wet if given a little too much throttle.
To sum up if you need a classic which can used as a proper family car too then this would be a good choice.
