Mercedes-Benz 190 (1983 - 1993)
190d 2.5
A very elegant old motor car which looks and drives almost as good now as it must have done when new.
I purchased this vehicle for a specific purpose which is to drive across Morocco through the edge of the Western Sahara and High Atlas mountains. I had one of these cars when new in 1988 (but the 2.6 petrol version) and this one after 20 years still feels like that one did when new.
In order to prepare for the trip I have sent the car off to Spain to my chum who lives there and is doing the trip with me. He will prepare it for desert use and after a week with it he has already announced that he would have no problem going around the world in this motor. He has been in the motor trade for over 40 years so knows his cars.
I am a bit reluctant to drive it across the desert in case it sustains any damage to its unblemished rust free body. I will be careful with it and intend to bring it back home at the end of the trip - hopefully in the same condition it is in now.
I can think of no better car I would like to do this journey in (although common sense tells me a 4 x 4 would make more sense)
A really lovely old classic.
