Volvo P1800 Reaches three million miles
News has come in that on Wednesday 18 September 2013, Irv Gordon from new York finally reached 3,000,000 miles in his 1966 Volvo P1800 while touring in Alaska. We offer our congratulations.
Irv is a 74-year old retired schoolteacher who spent his spare time travelling the length and breadth of the USA in his famous red 1966 P1800. 'It’s not about getting to the three million miles; it’s about the trips that got me to the three million miles,' Gordon told the LA Times. 'I never had a goal to get to one million, to two million.'
Each of the million-mile landmarks has come during a special trip. The car passed one million in 1987 while driving around Central Park. Two million also came during a New York City trip in 2002. When asked if the car would be able to reach four million, Irv said, 'The car may be able to take it, but I’m not so sure about me.'
