Preview: Chelsea Grand Rendezvous, 8 September

Published 30 August 2013

Classic cars of all shapes, sizes and values are welcome at the Royal Hospital Chelsea grounds on Sunday, 8 September for the first Grand Chelsea Rendezvous. The event, which aims to raise awareness of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, is one of a series of regular gatherings organised by 96 Club.

Entries so far range from a 1983 Austin Metro 1.3 HLE to a 1954 Austin Healey 100M, De Tomaso Mangusta and Bugatti Veyron. Open to public participation, anybody with a cherished classic car or cult car is invited to attend, and access to the beautiful grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea is both pedestrian and by car. A Grand Cavalcade of participant cars, departing from the Royal Hospital Chelsea and unfolding along Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park Corner and Sloane Square, will take place from 10.30am on the day.

Unlike many automotive events, the only criterion for attendance is one's unbridled passion for automotive history and engineering. Spouses, children, a beloved car and a picnic are all welcome. Those with no room for a picnic basket in their two-seater, can count on food and drink stands.

The Grand Chelsea Rendezvous is an all-day event, and gates (London Gate for pedestrians and Bull Ring Gate on the Embankment for cars) open at 8.30am-5.00pm on September 8. Donations start at £5.00 for pedestrian access, £20 per car entry. For more information, visit: the 96 Club website.
