A Grand Monday : Volkwagen Golf Cabriolet Pink Floyd
The roof is down and the sun is shining. Wish You Were Here?
With a budget of just £995, you soon could be, thank to this ultra-rare Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet 'Pink Floyd' edition. As the Money goes, that's not bad at all.
The German car maker was no stranger to naming cars after rock bands, having produced a Polo named after Genesis and a Golf 'Rolling Stones' in the past, but the Floyd-themed cabriolet was a real rarity - after which they appear to have hit The Wall. Produced to promote the 'Division Bell' tour and sold only through the brand's Dovercourt dealerships, there are just two known survivors, both currently on SORN.
The Pink Floyd was based on the range-topping Golf Avantgarde ragtop, but with added rock-adornments such as Pink Floyd logos on the centre console and head restraints, and unique Satin Blue paintwork.
With the roof down, it's the perfect car for staring at The Dark Side of the Moon while cruising along, even if it is Obscured by Clouds. Don't rush in, though, as the car could be hiding A Saucerful of Secrets, and the last thing you need is a Momentary Lapse of Reason before parting with your cash.
Our only major concern is the lack of an MoT. Mk 3 Golfs can rust, and if the floor and sills are a bit crusty then we'd suggest you Run Like Hell, but if it's solid and gets through a test, then it should make The Final Cut. If so, then Shine On, You Crazy Diamond.
You'll have to get there before The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, though, as we don't think it'll be there for a huge amount of Time...
With sincere apologies to Floyd fans. By the way, it's been off the road for a couple of years, but this looks like quite a decent little car.
