THE GUARDIAN
E.T.U. CHALLENGE TO 7 UNIONS
By our own Correspondents
The Electrical Trades Union on Saturday made the strike of its members at the Morris Commercial Cars factory at Adderley Park, Birmingham, official. Now 160 men are on strike and 1,200 are out of work at the factory, out of a total labour force of 3,000.
The strike, which started three weeks ago when 32 maintenance electricians refused to work with a non-union man, has affected two other British Motor Corporation factories during the week, and if the dispute continues it is expected that about four hundred men at the Austin factory at Longbridge will be laid off. The executives of seven other unions concerned in the dispute are meeting early this week to decide whether to follow the E.T.U.'s lead.
