BMC strike will make another 175 idle

24 March 1959

The strike of maintenance electricians over the employment of a non-unionist at the Morris Commercial factory at Adderley Park, which has made 1,700 workers idle, here entered its sixth week today.

A management official said that about 175 employees will be laid off tomorrow at the British Motor Corporation's tractor and transmissions branch, Washwood Heath, where tractor production has been halted by lack of diesel engines. A protest march by the strikers through the centre of the city was called off by shop stewards today when only about 50 men turned up.
