Published 28 March 2018

Mini has unveiled a one-off electric version of the its classic icon. The Oxfordshire-based firm took the wraps off the special project at the New York motor show.

Fitted with 30 lithium-iron phosphate batteries, the zero-emissions historic car has a range of 65 miles and a top speed of 75mph.

A Mini spokesman said, ‘The electric classic remains true to the brand, both in terms of its visual appearance and driving characteristics.

‘The spontaneous power of its electric motor provides a new dimension to the unmistakable go-kart feeling that helped propel the British small car in its original form to worldwide popularity.’

Finished in red with a white roof, the car carries the yellow Mini Electric logo in the brand emblem and on its hub caps.

A range of 65 miles is not really practical!

65 miles is perfectly adequate for most commutes. Anyway, it doesn't look like this is a serious product, more an excercise for the engineers.

At least it is a real Mini, the cars BMW make nowadays at Cowley, however good are not Mini's, more like Maxi's!
It would be great if something like this were put into production
To think that in 1936 the output of the Morris Motors Cowley factory exceeded that of the whole of the German motor industry combined - how the mighty have so sadly fallen.

Range wont be a problem.
It cant go on the road, NCAP rating!
They have always been deadly in a crash.
