Two Jaguar XK120SE Roadsters in Historics 24th November Classic Car Auction

Historics 24^th November Classic Car Auction at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands offers two Jaguar XK120SE Roadsters: a 1952 and a 1953.

Lot 283 is the 1953 XK120SE Roadster in silver with chrome wire wheels. Converted from left to right-hand drive by the vendor, then stripped to bare metal and painted in classic Jaguar silver. Both footwells have been extended and courtesy lights fitted to the underside of the doors. The standard bench was swapped for more sporting red leather bucket seats. All joints have been polybushed and all nuts, bolts, washers, radiator and bonnet stays made of marine-grade stainless steel. There are Dax adjustable dampers for each wheel. The engine was stripped and rebuilt by Guy Broad, complete with new conrods, shells and pistons. Breathing is through 2-inch SU carburettors and power fed through a five speed synchromesh gearbox. A single Le Mans-style fuel filler cap is added and the car has a genuine factory fitted louvered bonnet with the front pair of louvers facing forward to aid cooling. Like the world-famous ‘NUB 120’ driven by Pat Appleyard, there are twin spotlights at the front. This extremely well considered XK120 is estimated at £80,000 to £100,000.

Not quite identical, yet more original, Lot 313 is a 1952 XK120SE Roadster in white with silver painted alloys. Red, with tan leather interior when originally exported to the USA, it remains left hand drive now with a red leather bench seat. The present UK owner bought it in Kansas City in 1989 and used it regularly. Between 1998 and 2015 £26,000 has been spent restoring and upgrading the cart to its present state. It has uprated rear springs, front and rear Koni suspension upgrades, an alloy fuel tank and radiator, Blockley tyres and a stainless steel exhaust. Principle repairs included replacement sills, a complete engine rebuild including a period block replacement and a Moss gearbox rebuild. Then, following a carburettor fire in 2015 a further £44,500 was spent on body restoration, engine and carburettor rebuild, electrics and suspension. Ready to be enjoyed immediately BSK 644 would make an excellent addition to any enthusiast’s collection. It is estimated at £85,000 to £105,000.
