250 GT California Spider to headline Ferrari auction

Published 15 August 2017

A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider by Scaglietti will headline one of the biggest Ferrari auctions of the year. The event, which will be held by RM Sotheby’s at the Italian car maker’s Maranello factory on 9 September, promises prancing horses from across Ferrari’s seven decades of car production.

Chassis number 1503 GT is one of the most desirable Ferraris of its era. Offered from nearly two-decades of private ownership it has been recently restored and is estimated to fetch between €7,500,000 and €9,500,000 (£6.8m-£8.6m).

Also in the sale is a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO. Chassis number 57709 is the 255th of 272 built, the 288 GTO is virtually as-new throughout, having been purchased by its current owner in 1993 and stored ever since. With just 729km (453 miles) on the clock, it carries an estimate of €3,250,000-€4,000,000 (£3m-£3.6m).
