Brian May’s Jowett Javelin heads to auction

A 1952 Jowett Javelin that was bought by Queen’s Brian May is heading to auction. Guitarist May bought the Jowett as a gift for his father, Harold. After Harold’s death, the car sat in dry storage and will now be auctioned to raise money for animal welfare charity Save Me.

The Javelin is expected to fetch between £3000 and £6000 when it goes under the hammer at Barons’ Connoisseurs Classic Car sale at Sandown Park, Surrey, on 18 July.

Another eye-catching entry a 1964 Jensen CV8 (£43,000-£45,000). Originally owned by the philanthropist Robert Hitchens and his family for almost 40 years, this car was judged to be the best CV8 at this year’s Jensen Club international meeting.

Also for sale is a 1961 Austin-Healey BN7 - a well-preserved example of one of the rarest of all the Big Healeys produced; just 355 examples were manufactured. The specification of this particular model is rare in that it’s engine is fitted with triple carburrettor, which was only used for one year of the production run. It could fetch between £65,000 and £85,000.

E-type Jaguars have an enormous following, and Barons has two Series 2 FHC versions in its catalogue. The 1969 car was shipped new to the USA, where it was recently restored at a cost of more than $164,000. It comes complete with a comprehensive history file dating back to 1969 and carries an estimate of £65,000-£85,000.

Meanwhile, the 1970 FHC has recently been the subject of a significant amount of work, including a bare metal re-spray, new wiring and full engine re-build (estimate: £30,000-£45,000).

Ford Capris often prove popular and this 1975 black and gold genuine JPS Capri will be no exception. Restored to concours condition, it carries an estimate of £15,000-£20,000.
