Preview: Anglia classic car auction, 24 August, King's Lynn

Published 23 August 2013

Tomorrow's Anglia Car Auctions’ August Bank Holiday sale is its biggest one yet, with 160 lots going under the hammer. As well as a number of cars from the recently uncovered Porsche 'barn find collection' there's a wide selection of classics to suit all tastes and budgets.

A 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL, estimated at £30,000-40,000, continues the King’s Lynn auctioneer’s track record in selling the highly popular ‘Pagoda’ model. The five-owner, 86,000 miles example has a good history but could be improved with some light cosmetic work. Other Mercedes models coming under the hammer include a 1960 ‘Ponton’ 190B, estimated at £5500-7000. There’s also a selection of Jaguars to tempt would-be buyers away from the Mercedes-Benz, including three six-cylinder E-types, an XJ-SC and a one-owner 1986 XJ6 3.6 that’s offered without reserve.

Offering traditional be-finned drop-top cruising – and ideal to run out to the Norfolk seaside after the sale – is a 1962 Ford Zodiac convertible, which has been fully restored and is estimated at £19,000-26,000. A nice Volvo 164 models offer the chance of some more sensible classic motoring, with a metallic gold, the two-owner 1972 example being offered for a very tempting £1200-1800.

The restored 1981 TR7, estimated at £1800-2800 looks good, while for those like their TRs a little more traditional, a selection of TR4s as well as a Spitfire and a Herald 12/50 convertible give Triumph lovers plenty of opportunity to buy the car of their dreams.

Bringing convertible driving more up to date there’s a 1991 VW Golf Clipper Cabriolet, or for something a little more rudimentary a 1970 Kaiser Willys Jeep, estimated at £7000-9000, offers go-anywhere capability. A 1977 Land Rover 88” station wagon that’s covered 20,000 miles from new is estimated at £3000-5000 and, for more luxury off-road, a 1994 Range Rover Vogue SE needing some re-commissioning is offered without reserve.

There is a viewing today from 3pm to 7pm, with entry by catalogue, which will be available on the door. ACA opens at 10am on sale day with the Auction starting at 1pm. For more information, visit www.angliacarauctions.co.uk
