Top 10: Classic cars to see at the NEC restoration show

This year’s NEC Restoration and Classic Car Show returns to Birmingham on 28-29 March. Now double in size of the inaugural outing, everything is bigger! The number of clubs, the number of stalls in the Autojumble, and the number of cars entered into the Pride of Ownership display. These cars have all been lovingly restored in garages up and down the country, and are now ready to be showcased, inspiring some folk to get their project finished and making other green with envy! Richard Weaver’s MG Midget

‘I started looking for my dad’s old MG Midget in 1999, and found it three years ago. Dad had it secondhand in 1974, when it was only a year old.’ Only 160 were built in Black Tulip with Ochre trim, so when one was found it was bound to be the same car. It’s had one small piece of welding to the base of an A-post, but barring that and a repaint it’s needed very little restoration work. That didn’t stop Richard doing a full nut and bolt job – with brand new nuts and bolts. ‘The interior trim colour of yellow ochre was only used for one year and is no longer available - I have managed to buy the last set of new old stock for the car - original seat covers and a custom made carpet.’
