Decision day at Standard
27 May 1963
DECISION TODAY AT STANDARD'S
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
COVENTRY, MAY 26
A meeting of 260 maintenance men and internal transport drivers at Standard-Triumph International, Coventry, tomorrow will determine whether the plant shall resume production.
The men walked out on Friday over a pay dispute. Their work was done for a time by supervisory staff, but 5,000 production workers said it was "black" and struck in protest. This is Standard's first big strike since it was taken over by the Leyland group two years ago. If the dispute continues it will badly affect component supply firms.
