Stoppage Threatens BMC Output

17 May 1963

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
OXFORD. MAY 16

A strike by 1,000 workers at the radiators branch of Morris Motors at Oxford is threatening British Motor Corporation car production.

Production workers today refused to handle work going to or coming from the factory's subsidiary plant at Llanelli, where an official strike over a pay claim is in its sixth week. Welders refused to do work which they said was " black " and walked out, saying that the management would not give them alternative jobs. Other departments walked out in support until the factory was almost at a standstill.

Shop stewards said the national executive of the Amalgamated Engineering Union had given official sanction to the "blacking " of all materials in and out of the Llanelli works.
