Naughty Word Men Go back

25 February 1963

DAILY MIRROR

A thousand men who stopped work three days ago over a naughty word will be back on the assembly lines of a big motor factory today.

And foreman Andrew Park, 40, will be asked to apologise to worker George Gait, a 33-year-old lay preacher, " for his vindictive attitude towards him."

The workers—at the British Motor Corporation plant at Bathgate in West I.othian, Scotland — claim that foreman Park was so vindictive that Gait burst into tears . Six unions at the plant agreed to a return to work when the management promised yesterday to meet them on a number of domestic disputes.
