Car Body Firm Gives Workers A Pledge

Mr J. R. Edwards, managing director of the Pressed Steel Company. which makes car bodies for vehicle manufacturers, gave an assurance today that the Cowley works will remain the headquarters of the company's group of factories.
A week ago a meeting of members of the Transport and General Workers' Union employed by the company discussed workers' concern about the future. In a statement posted throughout the works Mr Edwards said: "My attention has been drawn to the public expression of fears of some of our employees that the present movement of short service workers from ourselves to our customers and neighbours represents the start of a permanent reduction in the level of manufacturing activity at our Cowley plant. I can say categorically that the company has no such thought or plan. Cowley is and will remain the headquarters of our group."
