Clerks strike at two Coventry factories
27 March 1962
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
COVENTRY, MARCH 26
Clerical and staff workers were involved in strikes at two Coventry factories today.
Thirty draughtsmen and clerks in the jig and tool planning section at Alvis Ltd., who stopped over a redundancy issue, demanded the withdrawal of three dismissal notices and full consultation on any future redundarncies.
At Standard-Triumph International Ltd, 20 clerks went on strike in the spares division. They said that as a result of streamlining by the parent company, Leyland Motors, the strength of the scheduling department had been halved and many employees were doing extra work which merited a wage increase.
