Austin Strike Ends On Monday
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
BIRMINGHAM, APRIL 6

After meetings between managements and unions of the British Motor Corporation all day today, it was agreed that a full return to work should take place on Monday.

A statement said that talks took place in "an endeavour to find a formula which will give an increase to day workers". The terms of the settlement were that any increase in day rates would be related "strictly to an increase in production ".

Failing satisfaction in domestic negotiations, a similar meeting could be reconvened by the eight unions concerned, the statement said. About 3,000 day rate workers at the Austin factory at Longbridge, Birmingham, have been out all week demanding 36s. a week more. More than 26,000 Midland car workers were made idle.
