Cover comes off Ian Callum's redesign of the Mk2 Jaguar

The Aston Martin DB7, the Jaguar F-type, the Ford Escort Cosworth – designer Ian Callum has penned some of the most recognisable cars ever made, but now he’s turned his hand to a classic Jaguar Mk2.

Built by Bridgnorth-based specialist Classic Motor Cars, the car is Callum’s attempt to retain the integrity of the Jaguar Mk2 – one of the car design’s that he first fell in love with – while bringing it bang up to date in terms of handling, performance and creature comforts.

Under the bonnet, is an uprated 4.3-litre XK engine with twin SU carbs mated to a five-speed gearbox, unique independent rear suspension and uprated front brakes.

But it’s the looks that will have everybody talking. Sitting 30mm lower than standard on 17-inch split rim wheels, Callum’s ditched the bumpers and much of the chrome work to bring out what he calls the purity and excitement of the original design. A fan of hot rods and saloon car racing, Callum’s fitted cooling ducts for the front brakes in the wing while at the rear sits a twin-pipe exhaust.
