Bitter SC (1979 – 1989) Review

Bitter SC (1979 – 1989) At A Glance

4/5

+Italianate looks combined with rugged German mechanicals

-Itanliate ability to rust

The Bitter SC was the second all-new car to come out of Erich's company - and just like the first, the CD, it was lauded for its pretty styling and well-finished interiors. The SC is said to offer the best of both worlds – rugged and capable GM engineering (this time the Opel Senator's platform) combined with glamorous Italianate styling.

Initially the bodies were built by OCRA, but production was switched to ILCA after just 79 SCs were completed. Initially, the didn't go as hard as its looks promised, but an upgraded 3.9-litre engine righted the situation, giving the car a maximum speed of more than 140mph. Rust was the enemy with these cars, and sadly sales weren't great, and by the late 1980s the SC's failure almost bankrupted Erich Bitter.
