Bosses Muck In
By Terry Pattinson
Executives are “mucking in” at Leyland to keep production moving during the craftsmen's unofficial strike. A company official said they were linking up with foremen in some factories to carry out essential repairs on production lines.
Leyland claims that 400 of shop steward Roy Fraser's rebel toolmakers have already deserted him. The biggest collapse came on Thursday when 240 Austin-Morris craftsmen at Cowley, Oxford, returned to work. But last night Mr Fraser , who is still strongly supported at the Pressed Steel Fisher components plant at Oxford, where he works said that the strike was starting to bite.
