shop stewards postpone action

19 April 1979

DAILY EXPRESS

Leyland bosses heaved a sigh of relief after shop stewards postponed action which could lead to leap frogging pay claims at different plants. They decided not to pull out of centralised pay bargaining machinery, but have put a stop on plans- to-pay £8-a-week rises to workers in plants that have met production targets pending talks. The strike by Leyland craftsmen, led by union rebel Roy Fraser, seemed to be crumbling, with thousands of men ignoring his walkout plea.
