Jaguar strikers warned

1 July 1972

Jaguar car workers in Coventry were warned yesterday by their chairman and chief executive, Mr Ravmond England, that customers would not wait indefinitely while workers indulged in the "suicidal " business of incessant squabbles over piecework earnings. A strike by 2,000 men which began a week ago has laid off 2,500 other workers at the Brown's Lane and Radford plants. Mr England says in his letter that it is inevitable that if the dispute continues the whole of the Jaguar labour force will be affected.

" The claim has been refused because we consider that the time has come when, if we are to survive in a highly competitive market we must cry halt to the ceaseless rounds of sectional demands for improved piecework earnings to which we are subjected."
