Full Working Again At Two Car Firms
18 February 1961
The Ford Motor Company return to a five-day week on Monday after nearly three months of short time, and Standard-Triumph International Ltd., Coventry, announced last night that as a result of their improved trading position the majority of their 7,000 workers would return to a five-day week by the end of February.
Standard-Triumph, who have just opened a new £2,500,000 assembly shop at Coventry able to produce 4,500 cars a week, stated that some sections had already reverted to full time. Since dismissing 1,700 employees in November Standards have maintained extensive short-time working. At one time this was as low as 19 hours spread over two and a half days a week.
