Strike Spreads At Rovers
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
BIRMINGHAM, MARCH 7

A strike of inspectors at Birmingham branch factories of the Rover Motor Company spread today to a fourth factory, when 46 inspectors at the Ryland Road factory joined the 211 who are already on strike. The strike began last week when 65 inspectors at the Acocks Green factory stopped work over a pay claim, and yesterday 120 inspectors at the Tyseley factory and 36 at the Greet factory went on strike in their support.

Production workers at the four factories, though reporting for work, have been refusing to handle work which has not been inspected, and this afternoon a Rover spokesman estimated that about 2,000 men were idle.

B.M.C. WALK-OUT
There was another motor industry strike in Birmingham today when over 100 toolroom workers at the British Motor Corporation factory of Tractor and Transmissions stopped work for the second time in a week.

They were protesting against the suspension of some of their workmates for refusing to work full time while the rest of the toolroom was on short time. A management spokesman said that the management had a right to order men to work a full 42-hour week as agreed in the industry, and he condemned the strike as "unofficial and unconstitutional ".
