Motor Industry's Welcome
20 January 1961
The motor industry welcomed the relaxation in credit restrictions last night. A Ford spokesman said: "Our company hopes to go back to a four-day week at the beginning of next month, and this new relaxation of the hire purchase order will, we hope, act as a fillip to that objective."
Spokesmen for Rootes, Vauxhall, and Standard-Triumph International, while hopeful of the effects. thought it would be some time before they could assess any benefits. and a spokesman for the British Motor Corporation in Birmingham commented that it remained to be seen whether the relaxation was sufficient to meet the industry's difficulties.
