Strikes

18 January 1961

There is to be a further cut in production at the Fisher and Ludlow factory here, the main body-building plant of the British Motor Corporation.

About 8,000 workers out of 10,000 at the factory are at present working only three or four days a week. Trade union spokesmen said today that several thousands of these would shortly be going on to two-days working but the management would not confirm this.

DAILY MIRROR

At Oxford 2000 workers at the Morris Motors assembly works, Cowley, began yesterday a half pay week. This means working for two and a half days and a drop in earnings from £14 and £20 a week to £7 and £10.
