17 August 1960
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
COVENTRY, AUG. 16
It was confirmed today that all 1,500 production employees at Daimler Ltd., Coventry, are soon to go on a temporary three day working week.
An official of Jaguar Cars Ltd., Coventry, which took over the Daimler factory in June for expansion purposes at a cost of £3,400,000, said this would continue during the reorganization of Daimler production and integration with that of Jaguar Cars Ltd. The production employees, who have been working five days a week, do not yet know for how long their period of three- day working will last.
Shop stewards have been informed of the reorganization moves and union officials on Thursday will be joining in further discussions. Sir William Lyons, chairman and managing director of Jaguar Cars Ltd has already stated that Daimler's current production models will continue and in accordance with Jaguar practice new models will be introduced from time to time. He has also said that all Daimler employees will be retained.
