100 WALK OUT AFTER PIECE RATE DISPUTE
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT OXFORD, AUG. 18

In a dispute over piecework rates about 100 men in the press shop at the Pressed Steel Company's Oxford factory walked out today. They objected to the re-rating of an operation after the speeding up of one of the presses.

If continued the stoppage could quickly affect other parts of the factory. Because of an unofficial strike in the press shop at Nuffield Metal Products in Birmingham the Minor line at the Morris factory in Cowley will cease production at midday tomorrow. There will be a return to work on Tuesday.

HOUSING CAR OUTPUT
A nine-storey car park to house 3,300 vehicles is to be built at the Austin works at Longbridge, Birmingham, to accommodate output. Cars will go there direct from the assembly lines.
