Night Shifts At Morris Motors

A regular night shift is likely to start soon at the British Motor Corporation factory of Morris Motors Ltd., Oxford. The following statement was issued today: "The management of Morris Motors Ltd. are discussing with senior shop stewards the starting of regular night shifts in order to increase production, and thus help to meet the overwhelming demand from both home and oversea markets for the new Farina-styled Nuffield models. The representatives of the trade unions will be told that the initial night shift is expected to total about 1,000 employees. Night shift working is already part of the regular production programme in many British Motor Corporation factories, and the Cowley plant will be one of the last major installations to fall into line."
Reorganization of the day shift will make many employees available for night work.
