Auction house profile: H&H
H&H was founded by Simon Hope and Mark Hamilton in 1993 as a specialist UK auction house dedicated solely to the sale of collectors' motorcars, motorcycles and automobilia.
In the early days all sales were held at Buxton, Derbyshire, but H&H has since expanded its portfolio of venues to include The Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, Rockingham Castle, Leicestershire and Chateau Impney, Droitwich, Worcestershire with a calendar that typically takes in seven or so sales a year.
Often with a line-up of more than 100 cars per sale, H&H’s offerings range from 1890s London to Brighton runners through to 1990s Formula 1 cars, usually with a comprehensive selection of mainstream classics, as well as upper-market, asset-class vehicles, barn-finds, curios and competition machinery.
With more than 30 years' experience of auctioning specialist commodities, Simon Hope has also been a collector since his university days and a participant in events such as the Mille Miglia Storica, Le Mans Classic, Monaco Historics and Goodwood Revival.
The company holds a number of world record auction prices and has a nationwide network of classic car and motorcycle specialists.
Following Mark Hamilton's retirement during 2007 the company moved to larger premises and now offers a range of private sales and storage services in addition to its core auction business.
