Why are there petrol fumes in my 1997 Volvo V70?
I have petrol fumes in cabin of my Volvo V70 T5 1997. Driving normally the fumes are not too much of a problem, however, when coming to a halt it is noticeable in the cabin. It has been checked during service and unfortunately following different checks i.e smoke test evap system deemed sealed crank shaft sensors replaced. It can also be noticed during turning. I have seen reports similar to mine from other Volvo drivers. I would be pleased to hear your thoughts?

The most common cause of this issue is a perished seal on the top of the fuel tank, where the fuel pump feeds in. The in-tank pump is accessed via a hatch under the back seat for ease of replacement. What tends to happen is the seal contracts in colder weather, so fuel tank vapour drift into the cabin. If there's no fuel leak evident and the tank and fuel lines don't feel damp, it's most likely to be the source of your problems.
