Top 10 cars sold at Silverstone Auctions' NEC sale
Auction records tumbled as a 1980 Mk2 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom sells for £97,875 and a 1996 Ford Escort Cosworth Lux went for £91,125 at this year’s NEC classic motor show sale.
A total of £3.6m changed hands during the auction with 67 per cent of the lots on offer finding new owners at the Silverstone Auctions sale on November 11-12.
1968 Jensen Interceptor MkI (ex-Eric Morecambe)
This Jensen used to belong to Eric Morecambe - one half of British comedy duo 'Morecambe and Wise'. After being presumed lost for many years, auctions owner Nick Whale tracked down the car in Belgium.
Nick commissioned Cropredy Bridge Garage to undertake a full restoration of the car to concours standard. The work, which included a full engine and gearbox rebuild, is documented at www.ericmorecambesjensen.co.uk and stretched well into six-figures. Add that to the original £28k purchase price and it starts to look like a bit of bargain.
Sold for: £95,625
