Toyota MR2 1994 - Intermittent fault, misfires and revs only to 3500
I haved owned this vechile since 2012 which has done 60,000 genuine miles and has been looked after and serviced meticulously.
Recently it has developed a Intermittent Problem?
The engine misfires and revs to only 3500rpm, enough for me to limp home. Have had the vehicle looked after by a first class independent garage, who have changed the HT leads, Distributor and HT pack about two weeks ago, and done the usual code checks on engine to no avail? Problem has resurfaced again after a brief run?
Problem appears after engine has warmed up with "Engine" fault lighting up on dashboard accompanied with engine misfiring above 3500 rpm?
Any ideas?

I've heard of this problem on turbocharged MR2s. Is yours turbo or N/A?elekie&a/c doctor on 24 April 2017
Check the flexi rubber air intake tube. These can split ,but it is not obvious unless you pull it about with your hands. Also does this model have the variable intake manifold flaps.?Not unknown for these to come loose.john coveney on 25 April 2017
Thanks elekie&a/c doctor. No does not have variable intake manifold flaps. But will press ahead with flexi rubber air intake tube and see. Will keep you posted.

Had the ECU checked and a few faults detected repaired and rebuilt.
