Model Timeline

The most sensible large country estate car you could buy in its day. Spacious, strong and reasonably economical (25-28 mpg). Clever 'hillholder' brake system. Low transmission range very useful for crawling along in a traffic jam.

4,670mm long x 1,695mm wide. 1,270kg. Masximum towing weight 1,200kg

Did very well in USA Insurance Industry offset crash tests.

April 2004

2.0 GL and GLS models launched with 115PS 2.0 litre flat four petrol engine. 2.2GX launched with 2.2 litre 130PS flat four petrol engine.

September 2006

2.0 GL model replaced by 2.0 LX and 2.2GL by 2.2GXS with various improvements. 2.5 150PS 4CAM and 2.5 150PS Outback launched with 4-speed automatic transmission

October 1998

LX became Classic LX with revised bumpers, a/c and 5 spoke alloy wheels. 5-speed manual became available on 2.5 Legacy and Outback.
