Buying Guide
Will probably have seen a few track days on race tracks. (Club Sport models definitely will have - no point in the car otherwise).
4-speed Tiptronic cabriolet comparatively slow.
Cabriolet hoods attract envy slashes.
Check carefully, preferably by professionals, that it has not been thrashed and crashed.
HPI or AA/Experian check will make sure it's not on VCAR, but if crashed on a circuit would not have been insured anyway.
Make sure the clutch still has plenty of life left in it.
Look out for damaged alloys (could be from kerbs, could have had an off.)
Cat could be blown from running against rev limiter.
Like 944, has two timing belts (one for the balancer shafts) and periodic re-tensioning of these is critical. Needs a new chain between the two cams plus tensioner every 70,000-80,000 miles (particularly if oil changes have been pushed). Fail to do this and could need new camshafts, which cost £500 each.
If engine vibrates, the hydraulic engine mounting may have failed and needs replacing.
Noise from rear means it is suffering from rear axle pinion failure which costs £1,200 - £1,500 to put right. More about this at:members.rennlist.org/martin
