Buying Guide

Good

  • 1990 Replacement for old Aston Martin V8 which dated back to the 1960s.
  • 5.3 litre 330bhp V8.
  • Five-speed manual.
  • Four speed auto from Jan 1993.
  • Re-named V8 in April 1996.
  • Received 350bhp and option of 6-speed manual box.
  • Awesome supercharged V8 Vantage had 550bhp and six-speed box.
  • Demand picked up again and a 35,000 mile 91J auto sold for £28,000 at a BCA Top Car auction in July 2001.
  • Demand for good ones still reasonably strong.

Bad

  • Unsuccessful.
  • Launched during the supercar boom and went into a tailspin once the boom went bust.
  • Extremely long gestation period.
  • Auto only a three-speeder to Jan 1993.
  • The engine alone is an enormous piece of hand built engineering. Potentially huge bills.

Watch

  • Don't buy without full inspection by an Aston Martin expert.
