Citroen AX (1986 - 1998)
Citroen AX GTi 1.4 100 BHP
A Retro Classic, which puts a smile on your face
I bought this car on ebay for £650. I have previously owned 3 1.0 AX models and must say they were all reliable and this AX is no different. I haven't had any major issues with it apart from a couple of electrical faults which the car had when I bought it which were easy to fix. The majority of spare parts can normally be purchased easily on Ebay or via the AX Owners Club http://www.axownersclub.com/ for a reasonable price. Its worth mentioning many mechanical parts are shared with the newer Saxo and Peugeot 106 models which can easily be found in many sc*** yards.
Compared to other retro hot hatches of the time such as the Peugeot 205 GTi and VW Golf GTi MK2, it isn't as quick as them, mainly because of the 1.4 engine the AX GTi is less powerful compared to 1.6, 1.8, 1.9 engines the Golf and 205 have. But the AX GTi is still quick, compared to other 1.4 cars of the same age, and you feel like your driving a go kart when driving round fast twisty country bends, which puts a smile on your face.
The car is quite practical and can fit 4 adults with ease and a fair amount of boot space for shopping bags. The GTi model isn't as economical compared to other AX models, probably about 32 MPG, but could be much worst.
All in all it is a great retro classic car that is becoming increasingly rarer to get hold of, and with prices being rock bottom for them at the moment, they can only increase in value over time.
