Reliable and easy to maintain

A solid, safe car, with an engine in which the components are readily identifiable (unlike today's morass under the bonnet).
Cheap to insure. Parts are available (OEM and after-market) though prices have risen 10-fold over the last 30-odd years for any hard to find parts (e.g. 1st section {engine} of the 3-section exhaust). BMW Manuals are available online and there are quite a few fora that specialise in old BMWs, including advice on keeping them running for as long as possible.
Heads turn when this old car drives by, with thumbs up from drivers of more modern- and higher performance- cars.
