Nova Scotian takes charge at British auto giant

6 July 1986

TORONTO STAR

Graham Day, coming to British Leyland after many successes, was announced by a major newspaper as a 'nasty surprise'
Graham Day, a Halifax-born corporate lawyer, was chosen by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to head the giant, state-controlled British Leyland car manufacturer in May.

So far Day has managed to escape the back-biting comments of Britain's old-boy network of bankers, politicians and civil servants. Day's managerial ability first brought him to the attention of the Labour government of prime minister Harold Wilson. Ironically, he was earmarked as the man who could oversee Britain's plans to nationalize British Shipbuilders.
