Longbridge strike

A strike last night stopped production of the Austin Metro for the second time in three weeks at BL's Longbridge factory in Birmingham.
Men, in the trim department went on strike last month over money and work practices. They returned on April 16 with the promise that their grievances would be investigated and work routines monitored. But they walked out yesterday because they did not agree with the way the company had carried out the work-study, an Austin Rover spokesman said.
About 250 men went on strike and a further 170 were laid off as production was halted.
