Triumph car output - almost at standstill
19 August 1971
Almost all Triumph car production was at a standstill at the company's Coventry and Liverpool plants last night. Over 3000 men are idle because of two disputes and last night the company said more workers would be laid off today The worst hit is the Coventry plant where a manning dispute involving 90 internal drivers has stopped two of the three production lines and led to 2500 employees being laid off.
The Liverpool dispute began on Tuesday with a walk out by 32 paint shop workers who are claiming pavment for a 45 minute period last week when no work was completed. A further 350 men joined the walk out in sympathy with them and 228 were laid off.
BLMC short time:
Deterioration in the orders position has caused more short time at the British Leyland truck and tractor factory, Bathgate, West Lothian. From todav a four day week is to be introduced for about 3000 production workers.
