Longbridge workers stay out

23 October 1969

At British Leyland's Longbridge car plant the 120 engine assembly workers who have been on strike since October 1st over a piecework pay dispute have voted to stay out. Production of 1800 and MGB cars is at a standstill because no engines for them are being made and 2,600 other BLMC workers are laid off.

THE GUARDIAN

All car assembly at the Jaguar plant in Coventry was stopped when 1,500 workers had to be sent home after a piecework dispute involving six men.

Triumph motors laid off 230 men at its gearbox department in Coventry because of a continuing strike by machine tool fitters.
