Strike stops Rover works

STRIKE STOPS ROVER WORKS
A further 500 workers were laid off yesterday at the Rover Company's main assembly plant in Solihull, Warwickshire, where production has been halted by a strike at a components factory. A company official said that as sections starved of components closed down, more workmen were sent home and the production of cars stopped completely at the end of the day.
The trouble arises from a dispute at Weathershields, Birmingham, a firm which supplies body trimmings, where 380 workers are on strike for an increase in day rates voted on Thursday to stay out.
