250 BMC Men Refuse To Work Overtime
29 October 1960
A sympathy strike yesterday by 250 pieceworkers at the British Motor Corporation's material handling factory of Fisher and Ludlow, at Coseley, Staffordshire, ended last night when the men decided to return to work on Monday but to refuse to work overtime. The dispute started over wages paid to the plating section. When 30 platers came out on strike the pieceworkers followed. The platers, according to a B.M.C. official, have decided to continue their strike.
Land-Rover production at the Rover Motor Company works at Solihull, Warwickshire, was at a standstill and 1,500 men were idle last night because of a strike of 120 sheet-metal workers. The strike started in the chassis department on Wednesday over a wage claim.
